Electrochemical oxidation of 2,4,6-tribromophenol (TBP) has been studied by cyclic and differential pulse voltammetries at a glassy carbon electrode in 50 % aqueous methanol the pH range 2.5-12. The formation of electroactive products was observed in acid solution. A film of polymeric oxidation product that passivates the electrode surface was formed depending on the concentration and scan rate in neutral and alkaline solutions. Neutral and alkaline solutions of TBP were subjected to controlled-potential electrolysis with Pt gauze electrode and the coating formed on the electrode was analyzed by GC-MS. The main products of TBP oxidation were 2,6-dibromo-4-(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)phenol and 3,3’,5,5’-tetrabromo-1,1’-bi(cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene)-4,4’-dione.
